Grisoft, a world leader in the development of anti-virus solutions, today announced that it has further deepened its relationship with AARP Tax-Aide providing 10,000 user licenses of the company's industry-leading AVG Anti-Virus software that will protect some 32,000 AARP Tax-Aide volunteers around the U.S. from computer viruses and malicious code. "Having established a relationship in 2001 to support AARP Tax-Aide and the large group of taxpayers it serves, we have decided to further extend our commitment to the program by providing them with AVG licenses," stated Peter Lipa, President of Grisoft Inc. "We are extremely proud and honored to be associated with AARP and more specifically, AARP Tax-Aide, whose 32,000 volunteers assisted some 1.88 million Americans with their tax needs in 2004.Since about 400,000 of these taxpayers used the Federal return program's e-filing capabilities last year and 14,000 of these used the AARP Tax-Aide online tax counseling service, we believe it is imperative that the program be afforded the best possible protection from viruses and malicious activities that are a daily occurrence in the IT and Internet worlds," Mr. Lipa went onto comment."AARP Tax-Aide really appreciates Grisoft's generous donation. Based on my own experience, the volume of infected data zipping around cyberspace grows daily. AVG Version 7.0, which I have been using for several months, has kept me totally protected with no effort on my part except to routinely update the virus definition files. The process to do that is simplicity itself," commented Mr. David Inman, a member of the AARP Tax-Aide National Technology Committee. He went to add, "With computers playing such a huge role in the services we provide, we can't afford to have the process, and in turn, the experience of our volunteers and clients, disrupted by a virus."AVG Anti-VirusAVG Anti-Virus software is unique in that it shields computers from viruses, trojan horses, and worms with a multi-level approach that is more comprehensive than most protection programs.* After using an extensive preprocessing procedure to scan data for patterns of virus code, AVG moves on to examine files with genericdetection that roots out new strains or variants of known viruses.* Two levels of heuristic analysis are performed. The dynamic level uses code emulation to evaluate, in a secure virtual environment, thebehavior of the program or file being tested. Static heuristic analysis locates programming code that is typical for certain types of virus propagation.* AVG performs an integrity check. Certain data associated with each scanned file is stored in its internal integrity database and used to heal infected files, potentially restoring information that may have been lost during infection.* AVG supports all legacy Windows operating systems from Windows 95 through the latest version of Windows XP.* AVG provides users with extremely fast and efficient database updates to meet the latest viral threats.About GrisoftFounded in 1991 in the Czech Republic, Grisoft Inc. has been focused on developing software solutions that provide computers with detection of and protection from viruses. About AARP Tax-AideAARP Tax-Aide was established in 1968 to help persons complete their tax returns -- a process which can be daunting and costly. A national survey has found that roughly half of the nation's adult population lacks the most basic skills to prepare a tax return. The tax laws are complex, and persons with limited means often end up using a significant portion of a refund simply to have their taxes prepared. Trained AARP Tax-Aide volunteers help persons with low and middle income to maximize their legal deductions and credits, resulting in tangible economic benefits to them. The program began with four volunteers who served 100 persons that season; in 2003, the program had grown to nearly 32,000 volunteers who assisted 1.88 million persons at sites throughout the United States.AARP Tax-Aide is administered through the AARP Foundation in cooperation with the IRS. The AARP Foundation is AARP's affiliated charity. Foundation programs provide security, protection, and empowerment for low-income older persons in need.Today, AARP Tax-Aide is an important part of AARP's commitment to community service, helping to improve communities by providing this valuable service and offering volunteers meaningful, satisfying community service roles..
