Speakers not working

*****

HC: My speakers don't appear to be working - how can I test the sound card and the speakers? Is it simple to do?

*****

Hi HC

I'm guessing you've checked the obvious, like cables and power and volume. If you have, then the best bet is to visit the Control Panel and check out the "Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices" settings.

Just have a look through the settings for anything obvious - like the "mute" feature enabled or perhaps "Device not working properly" notices.

If everything looks kosher, then it could be a more serious hardware problem. You might try reinstalling the drivers if you know how, otherwise give me a call for an appointment.

vsmon.exe: DLL initialisation failed

*****

HC: When I log off (on every occasion) the following appears in a rectangular box: " vsmon.exe: DLL Initialization failed - The application failed to initialize because the window station is shutting down"

HC: What does it mean and how can I prevent this slogan from appearing when I close down? What is this all about?

*****

Hi HC,

The vsmon.exe is a service that belongs to Zone Alarm, so if it is giving some problems then it has most likely got some sort of corruption.

I would recommend visiting www.zonelabs.com and downloading the latest Free version of ZoneAlarm and then completely physically disconnecting from the Internet so that you can upgrade or reinstall the programme.

Note: If you "upgrade", all previous settings will remain. If you do a "clean install", you'll lose your settings (that's only important if you have a home network or other customisationised settings).
